The start of the new school year is just a few weeks away, and school supply drives, fairs and events to help parents are happening around the valley. The first day of school for Clark County School District students is Monday, Aug. 29.

Check out these events around the valley:

Free haircuts for kids -- Aug. 28
Community Cuts on 415 S. Decatur Blvd. will be giving away free haircuts on Aug. 28 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. In order to have some control in numbers, all students will need to have an original flyer for their haircuts. Any K-12 student with a flyer  will receive a free haircut or styling.

AT&T Wireless stores -- Through Aug. 29
All 12 My Wireless AT&T retail locations will be partnering with Dean Petersen Elementary to provide underprivileged students with the necessary supplies for a successful school year.  All donations will receive 15% off accessory purchases and qualify for special in-store promotions.

These supplies include:

Backpacks
Pencils
Notebooks
Crayons
Glue Sticks
Markers
Socks and Underwear (for the nurse office)  (All sizes.  Ages 6-10)
All other school supplies

This drive will continue through the month of August and all supplies will be donated on the first day of school, Aug. 29, 2016.

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth is providing a solution for these vulnerable teenagers. The nonprofit organization has established a school supplies closet for homeless youth to get what they need for back-to-school preparation along with providing essential services such as emergency shelter, family reunification, mobile crisis intervention, survival supplies, outreach, education and employment assistance, transitional housing, Drop-In Center services, and other extra-curricular programs. However NPHY still needs the public’s help filling the school supplies closet with backpacks, notepads, pens, pencils and other needed items, including clothing, for these thousands of youth. Donations can be taken to the NPHY Drop-In Center, located at 4981 Shirley Street near UNLV, or online donations can be made to the Backpacks 4 Class Acts drive by going to https://www.gofundme.com/2c5fnrjy.

LEXUS of Las Vegas

Lexus of Las Vegas and Lexus of Henderson are proud to be location drop-off sponsors of the 2016 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas (RMHC) back to school supplies drive. Southern Nevada residents are urged to purchase and donate badly needed school supplies such as pencils, crayons, pocket calculators, three-ring binders, glue sticks, backpacks and other classroom items for Clark County School District students. Collection boxes have been set up near the Parts Departments at both Lexus dealerships. The Lexus of Las Vegas dealership is located at 6600 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas. The Lexus of Henderson dealership is at 7736 Eastgate Road, Henderson. School supplies will be collected throughout the month of August.
