A new memorial now stands at the site of the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, where 49 people were shot and killed in June.

On Thursday, the gates surrounding the nightclub were opened to the public for the first time since the June 12 shooting.

Friends, family and survivors wrote messages across a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring hearts painted in the colors of the rainbow flag.

"There is a statement that we are here," said artist Mr. Brainwash. "We're not forgetting. We are right here, we give love."

He says he created the mural not only because of what happened at Pulse, but also because of the community's response.
