Dozens of women got together to help push each other towards a better life at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Thursday morning.

The event, called ChallengeHER, was sponsored by several groups including Woman Impacting Public Policy, the Small Business Administration and American Express OPEN.

Lin Stuart is the Director of Procurement Programs at the organization.

"The government is the largest purchaser of goods and services in the world," said Stuart.

The goal of the event was to introduce women to the world of federal contracting.

"It felt overwhelming until I got here today," said Robin Camacho.

Camacho is one of the more than 75,000 local women who owns a business in Las Vegas, according to the State of Women-Owned Businesses report.

"I have been selling real estate in this valley for about 18 years. I have a strong team of agents," she said.

Keep in mind, the process, while doable, is not quick or easy.

"It is highly important that you understand the process, because if you don't use the right language, if you don't market in the right way, they won't talk to you."

Stuart said if you missed Thursday's event, head over to the website of the Nevada Small Business Development Center for more information.
