ORIGINAL STORY

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A resident found the body of a woman on a sidewalk near Quartz Lane and View Drive around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman in her early 20s was shot in the head, according to police.

"It's unusual to have a young female basically dumped on the sidewalk," says Metro police Ltn. Dan McGrath.

A witness saw a gray 4-door vehicle leaving the area just after the shooting. Officials are unsure if the car was involved. However, because the woman was found on the sidewalk, she likely could have been trying to get in or out of the car just before the shooting took place.

Police will use surveillance footage from a nearby elementary school and fire station to investigate the incident.
