UPDATE ON FEB. 15: Officials charged Linda F. Evans with two counts of arson after allegedly starting a fire that caused $3,500 in damage on Tuesday.

ORIGINAL STORY

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A woman stood handcuffed across the street as firefighters worked to douse the flames in a pair of palm trees and the adjoining building Tuesday evening.

Crews said witnesses pointed them to the woman as they arrived on the scene near Washington Avenue and D Street.

As firefighters made sure the fire was out, Las Vegas police led the woman to a squad car and took her away from the scene.

People at a nearby church said they called 911 after hearing the woman yelling and seeing her with a lighter in her hand.

"She lit it up for the third or fourth time, and that is when the palm tree just, poof. That is when the building really caught fire," Peter Dixon said.

Firefighter said nobody was injured in the fire.
