With July marking National Ice Cream Month and to help travelers cool off with tasty treats over the holiday weekend, TripAdvisor has named the top 10 ice cream shops in the U.S.

The list is based on the reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor travelers.

Dietsch Brothers Inc.: Findlay, Ohio
Since the 1920s, this family-run sweet shop has served up homemade ice cream to those who come from near and far. Traditional flavors include strawberry, coffee and lemon custard while pumpkin, eggnog and red velvet are among the seasonal samplings.

Pink Pelican Ice Cream Bar: Panama City Beach, Florida
This Bay County dairy bar proudly serves "the finest ice cream on the Gulf Coast." Its menu features 40 flavors, as well as homemade waffle cones, Italian ice and old fashioned malts and milkshakes.

Holy Cow: Red Hook, New York
For more than 30 years, this Hudson Valley sweet factory has been serving up ice cream. Hard and soft ice cream are among the choices.

Sweet Cow: Louisville, Colorado
Made with locally-sourced ingredients, this mountainside dairy bar prides itself on being the cleanest ice cream shop on the planet and is also eco-friendly, using only compostable and recyclable materials. The menu boasts more than 140 flavors that rotate daily and seasonally.

Broom's Bloom Dairy: Bel Air, Maryland
Open year-round, travelers will enjoy old-fashioned, hand-dipped ice cream that is made right on the farm. Flavors include coconut almond, graham cracker cake batter and cookies and cream.

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream: Bonita Springs, Florida
With more than 30 locations, guests at this southern shop can choose from a variety of smooth and creamy options including Handle pops, fresh cones with towering scoops, or sundaes in their homemade waffle bowls.

Leo's Ice Cream: Carlisle, Pennsylvania
Leo's menu includes everything from frozen chocolate covered bananas to sundaes and splits. Traditional favorites can be enjoyed as well as unexpected flavors like jalapeno cornbread and honey sunflower vanilla.

Cowlicks Hand Made Ice Cream: Fort Bragg, California
Located along the Pacific Coast, this family-owned shop serves up ice cream and sources its dairy from local Petaluma cows. Guests are invited to sample as many flavors as they please.

Ice Cream Smuggler: Dennis, Massachusetts
Known to many as the "best ice cream shop on Cape Cod," this quaint dairy bar will not disappoint. For more than 30 years, the Smuggler has been sharing the tempting tastes of New England with locals and travelers from around the world. Among the 27 flavors are apple pie, frozen pudding and fresh strawberry.

oWowCow Creamery: Ottsville, Pennsylvania
Using only the freshest local ingredients, this natural ice cream shop proudly serves old-fashioned frothy floats, generous scoops, malted milkshakes and more. Unique flavors include chocolate jalapeno, cinnamon bourbon and sweet honey cream.
