(KTNV) -- For the first time, a major sports league in the United States is reaching out in a big way.

The National Hockey League is looking to be more open to gay players.

The message that the NHL is trying to send is that hockey is for everyone. It is called "You Can Play."

The PSA produced by the NHL included the co-founders of the campaign talking about their mission for equality in professional athletics.

The league itself is committing to education and training for teams, players, media and fans through its partnership.

This campaign is the biggest step taken by a major men's league in support of gay rights. But, it may not be the last.

There have been recent reports that a handful of professional football players could come out of the closet sometime this year.
