UNLV launched a new free mobile app they say will help keep students and staff more safe.

The app is called "RebelSAFE." The designers said they looked for input from students before creating all of its features.

On the app, you can get campus safety alerts and also text police dispatch in case of an emergency.

"As a woman, if you feel like you're being followed and someone hears you on the phone, it's going to aggravate them so if you can send a text, that's awesome."

Another feature on the app is using your current location, if you feel unsafe walking, you can send your location to family or friends and alert them again when you arrive safely.

The app is available for free on the app store. So far, the university says 1,000 people have already downloaded it so far. Their goal is to see at least 40 percent of the student body adopt it as word continues to spread.
