Two pedestrians were hit by cars in separate crashes on Boulder Highway Saturday night.

The first crash happened around 8:50 p.m. near Boulder Highway and Harmon. A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police unit hit a pedestrian. The victim was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Information about the person driving the LVMPD unit was not immediately released.

About 10 minutes later, another crash happened on Boulder Highway and Nellis and left one woman dead.

The family of the woman were on scene and told 13 Action News the woman was crossing the road in a wheelchair when a truck struck her in the crosswalk. They believe the truck may have run a red light.

"I lost one of my good friends and everything, but she is my guardian angel now," said witness Jane Horn Harrison. "She's gonna watch over me and watch over a lot of us homeless people out here."

Boulder Highway between Nellis and Harmon was closed Saturday night as officers investigated both scenes.

Traffic Safety expert Erin Breen advises drivers to slow down and pedestrians to wear reflective tape because it could be the difference between life and death.
