Matthew Neifeld was driving home along Desert Inn Road around 2 a.m. Saturday morning when he said he encountered an all too familiar scene.
He said he called 9-1-1 and ran to help the people trapped inside a vehicle.
Police confirmed around 2:30 am, a speeding driver traveling westbound on Desert Inn collided with the jersey wall
.
The driver's husband said his wife was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, her cousin, also suffered serious injuries.
People living nearby said accidents on this stretch of roadway happen all the time.
The speed limit on Desert Inn is 35 mph, but as you approach the bend in the road the speed limit drops to 10 mph, which makes it difficult for speeding drivers to stop.
"It seems like they tow the cars out of here, they pick people up and take them to the hospital and they do nothing to correct the problem, " Neifeld said.
And while people tell us speed plays a factor, it is not the only reason.
"There is nothing to tell you that [the street] ends but concrete barriers," Neifeld said.
He added that accidents are traumatizing, but even worse is knowing they are preventable.
"On both parts on the County doing something about this road and practicing safe driving," Neifeld said.
