On Deck Baseball Academy lands kids in college
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It's just a game and a sophisticated computer but it's helping dozens of local kids get to college.
The On Deck Baseball Academy is fun for anyone over the age of four.
But we chose to feature this place when we learned it has helped dozens of local kids get to college. Kids who know how to swing a bat but needed practice like this.
The computerized pitcher at On Deck is called the Pro Batter and it's what they use in the big leagues. There are some pros who practice here when they are in town but it's the kids this place caters to.
Owner Andy Concepcion says, "We've had a lot of success. I makes us feel great about what we do. Especially when parents can't afford it and we have an opportunity for a kid to go to school and not have to pay anything."
The On Deck Baseball Academy never promises a kid they are headed to the big league, they just want each kid to reach their potential. And during our interview, a Bishop Gorman mom texted Andy a thank you because her son had just made the JV team.
To date, this place has helped 35 kids earn college scholarships.
