Local radio personality shaving head to benefit cancer research
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- He is a well-known local radio personality and director at 98.5 KLUC-FM but shaving his head is not a radio stunt for Cat Thomas.
He has a very personal reason for going bald this weekend and it is making Las Vegas a better place to live.
Thomas will be participating in this year's head-shaving event for St. Baldrick's Foundation at McMullin's Irish Pub on West Tropicana Avenue.
It is the fifth year that he will shave his head for the event that raises money for childhood cancer research. His reason for doing so is a little boy that was born the same time as his son.
That boy, named Jackson, was born with leukemia and died two years later.
Thomas is committed to helping find a cure and so is his family at KLUC. Deejay Chet Buchanan will host the event at McMullan's.
Every year, Thomas colors his hair before the big shave and personally raises thousands of dollars for the event.
The event begins at noon tomorrow. The owners of McMullan's lost their daughter to cancer. In addition to holding the event, they donate the proceeds from the bar that day to St. Baldrick's.
Last year, they raised $350,000, which made their event one of the biggest fundraisers for St. Baldrick's in the nation.
In addition to the event at McMullan's, there are also similar events taking place at New York-New York at Ri Ra at The Shoppes at Mandalay.
