Help for first-time home buyers
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Owning your own home is part of the American dream but that pesky down payment is a roadblock for many people.
But what if you could get $15,000 for a down payment that you never have to pay back? There are programs like this out there but most of us don't know about them. The Hope Home Foundation does and they want to help you.
Monica Leung is ready to move in to her first new home."It's a lot of space for one person, but I'm really excited."
Monica worked with the Hope Home Foundation to get a $15,000 down payment she doesn't have to pay back.
Dawn Carol Lane is the founder of Hope Home. She says, "We want to put families in homes. The workforce families that deserve to be in homes and build neighborhoods here.
There are some criteria you have to meet. And you must be willing to take an eight-hour course, but then you, like Monica can be showing off your new place.
Monica explained, "There are so many different programs out there I don't know about so they just helped guide me in the right direction and told me what to do."
Goodwill and Zappos have teamed up with the Hope Home Foundation but anyone can use their service at no cost, even if your employer doesn't work with them.
In addition to helping first time home buyers, they have rental assistance programs and foreclosure prevention. They just helped a Zappos employee facing foreclosure refinance their home. If you need help regarding home ownership, the Hope Home Foundation can help.
