MAKING LAS VEGAS A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE
Henderson kicks off community weight loss program
Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- Lighten up Henderson is a citywide weight loss campaign that gets underway this week. Hundreds of people will be stepping on the scales and pledging to drop a few pounds over the next 12 weeks. It's a campaign that's making Henderson a better place to live.
Diane Kozono started exercising years ago when caring for her elderly mother started taking a physical toll. "I didn't want to injure myself."
Now Diane knows her way around the gym pretty well but still plans to step on the scale and participate in Lighten up Henderson. 'I'd like to lose 24 pounds. But if I lose 12 I'd be happy."
And Henderson's recreation supervisor will be happy if anyone who lives, works or plays in Henderson goes to one of their seven recreation centers this week to weigh in. Nick McLemore says, " We want to be healthy, and get our patrons out there. doesn't matter if they're gong to parks and trails, take a yoga class, come to one of our fitness centers. The point is just to get our community healthy."
Last year, 401 people signed up to lighten up, losing a combined 751 pounds. This year, they're hoping for a bigger turnout and smaller waistlines. Everyone who signs up gets one week free to the fitness rooms to get you started.
If you want in on the weight loss fun, you can get weighed in any day this week from 6 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at any of Henderson recreation centers.
The friendly competition is free. If you participate, you'll be given a number so that everyone's names remain confidential, but you can see how you stack up against the competition by logging on to: cohhealthyhenderson@cityofhenderson.com
