Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The "King of Dirt" lives here in Las Vegas. That may not sound like a flattering title, but Ricardo Laguna is a pro BMX rider, ranked the #1 Latin and South American Dirt Jumper in the world. And he's also Making Las Vegas A Better Place To Live.

Ricardo Laguna is famous for his stunts on the bike. He started riding BMX when he moved to Las Vegas at age 13. " I didn't speak no English. I wanted to make friends. One of the kids kind of spoke Spanish. Before you knew it, we're riding BMX bike. They were just jumping out of a hole, no safety gear, nothing."

It's that passion for safety that has Ricardo teaming up with Think First Nevada to outfit kids with proper safety gear.

"If you don't have the proper helmet, you can't even compete. Safety is becoming a huge thing. "

It's the fourth year Ricardo has participated in the After-Christmas Helmet Giveaway. One of countless things this Latin bachelor and world-class athlete does for the city of Las Vegas.

"For a city like this that everybody is think party and whatever nonsense, I feel like Vegas has been great to me. Especially with so many public parks -- all bike friendly. The city that can offer anything and everything. It is the best city in the world for me."

Your kids can show up and get fitted for a free helmet on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Land Rover Las Vegas on West Sahara Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ricardo and his friends will do demonstrations. There will also be a crew of break-dancers and a DJ.
