Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A local company is saving you, the taxpayer, thousands of dollars by getting the city of Las Vegas to recycle. It's making Las Vegas a better place to live.
The city hired Simple ESG to do a waste audit and help implement waste-reducing, cost-saving measures. Founder Danielle Basson says, "So we haven't been as conscious as we should be historically on keeping things out of hte landfill because we have room for 300 years of garbage. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be focusing on sustainability."
Las Vegas Public Information officer Jace Radke says, "Obviously, if we can create less trash, recyle more, it will save us money in a lot of ways. Obviously if we don't have as many trash pickups which will save us money. At the end of the day, that comes from taxpayers."
How much money are we talking? Recycling could save the city as much as $300,000 a year. Simple ESG also produced similar savings when it helped Mariana's Hispanice grocery chain recyle. That company has saved more than $200,000.
Much of the recycling work is being done inside our city government buildings, but you can do your part by watching for blue garbage bins at city parks.
No need to sort the trash. Just throw it all in there. The only things those containers can't hold? Glass and food.
