Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Our schools encourage kids to read every day, but what happens when a child doesn't own a book?  Some kids have no way to get to the library to borrow books either.  How are these kids supposed to develop a great reading habit?  Hopelink of Southern Nevada is making Las Vegas a better place to live through its Breakfast Bookworm program.

Hopelink offers the program at eight different Clark County schools.  They chose the schools with struggling literacy scores.  Every child who comes gets a free book or two and free breakfast.  Siblings are invited too!  The only catch?  They have to bring a parent.

Hopelink's Director says, "We bring brand new and gently used books to help children build their home libraries to encourage parents to participate in literacy. "

Bobbie Bookworm reads to the kids.  And then every child gets to take home a copy of the book and whatever other book they choose.  Once a month, Hopelink returns and they even offer an after school tutoring program.

Breakfast Bookworm is funded by the MGM Voice Foundation.  Volunteers with the Siemens company also help make this possible.
