Las Vegas residents, especially pet owners, should keep their eyes out for a few slithery friends.

Local veterinarians are warning Las Vegas locals to keep a close eye on their surroundings because there's been an uptick on snake bites in the area.

Vet clinics, like Craig Road Animal Hospital, say it's common to see an increase in snake bites to dogs this time of year. The snakes love the spring climate and have been seen rustling through bushes and along hiking trails as of late.

"It's actually perfect for when people want to walk dogs because it's beautiful outside," says veterinarian, Dr. Tampira. "But rattlesnakes think it's beautiful too, and that's the problem."

Craig Road Animal Hospital is currently treating two dogs after they were both bit by rattlesnakes.

Make sure you protect both yourself and your pets if you're planning on spending a lot of time outdoors. Vets suggest you keep your dog on a leash so you can see what is directly in front of them.

If your dog is bit, make sure to take the animal to an animal hospital that carries anti-venom.
