WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is launching a push to extend tax cuts for the middle class, starting with an address from the White House on Monday.

A senior administration official says Obama will call for a one-year extension of tax cuts for people making less than $250,000 a year.

House Republicans are expected to push this month for a measure to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts due to expire at the end of the year, including reductions on wealthier income earners.

An official at Obama's re-election campaign says it will promote the president's economic agenda in a series of events this week in battleground states, including New Hampshire, Colorado and Nevada. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity in order to preview Obama's announcement.
