Police are investigating an alleged extortion plot against a Reno Republican running for the state legislature who says he's ending his campaign after someone hacked his email and sent nude photos of him to GOP leaders.

Jim Riger Sr. told The Associated Press Wednesday he's the "victim -- not the criminal" he's been made out to be.

Riger won an uncontested GOP primary in June for the right to face Democratic Assemblywoman Amber Joiner in November in District 24.

The Reno Gazette-Journal first reported that the chairwoman of the Republican Women of Northern Nevada PAC had filed a complaint with police about the illicit photos she says she received from Riger's email address in June.

Police spokesman Tim Broadway confirmed an investigation into allegations Riger made in a complaint regarding "a possible extortion" but said he can't elaborate.
