On Sept. 17, 2015 34-year-old Javier Ortiz and his brother were working on a vehicle in the parking lot of 2245 Exeter Drive, while two other people were driving a three-wheeled motorcycle in the intersection of Exeter Drive and Kepler Drive.

An as yet unidentified male suspect standing to the east of the intersection on Kepler, fired numerous rounds at the people on the motorcycle. Ortiz was struck by gunfire and killed, and his brother and one of the people on the motorcycle were injured.

A year later, this case remains unsolved and detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect involved.

On Sept. 24, police along with volunteers from the community reached out to residents in the area and passed out flyers with information about the homicide.

The teams hoped to knock on approximately 400 doors and to speak with as many residents as possible.
