LATEST UPDATE: An arrest report reveals what happened prior to 32-year-old Matthew Antonio Bernardi allegedly being shot by his girlfriend, 35-year-old Cheryl Rheamount.

Rheamount told police that the pair met in May of this year. The started dating and Bernard eventually moved in with her. The relationship supposedly became toxic when Bernardi became physically and verbally abusive. However, Rheamount never called the police to report the assaults.

Rheamount says that when the couple woke up the morning of the shooting, there were no problems. But, they began to argue during a gambling trip to The Cannery.

Rheamount told police that when they returned home, the argument escalated. Bernardi went inside apartment to get his belongings. Rheamount says she had a premonition that something bad was going to happen so she took her gun out of her purse and placed it under her seat.

When Bernardi returned, they continued to argue. Rheamount says he threatened to kill her. She also said that he grabbed her by the back of the head and slammed her face either into his lap or dashboard, causing her nose to bleed.

He then reportedly told her to get into the back seat and began driving. Eventually he pulled over and turned around to face Rheamount. That is when she allegedly pulled out her gun and shot him. After the shooting, she ran back to her apartment complex.

Police say that when asked why she didn't run away when he stopped the car, Rheamount replied that she knew he would chase her.

Police were able to recover the gun that was used.

Rheamount was arrested for open murder and booked accordingly.
