A 32-year-old former Mississippi jail inmate pleaded not guilty in Las Vegas to murder charges that could get him the death penalty in a 2013 double slaying case.

A judge set trial Sept. 12 for Christopher Charles Green following his arraignment Monday in Clark County District Court.

Green's lawyers, Jeremy Storms and Michael Hyte, declined to comment outside court.

Green is accused of killing Teray Shaney Lyles and Michael Dunbar in October 2013 in a courtyard of an east Las Vegas apartment complex.

Prosecutors will decide in coming weeks whether to seek capital punishment.

Police say witnesses identified Green as the gunman, and a partial fingerprint linked him to a rifle found near the slaying scene.

Green was jailed until recently in Mississippi on an aggravated assault conviction.
