8:46 P.M.

Las Vegas police is investigating a shooting that occured on the 5100 block of Hibbetts Drive near Twain Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.  Police say a father and son were shot after an altercation with unknown suspects while having a yard sale in their front yard.  They were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

10:15 A.M.

According to a statement released Friday, the Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating an apparent suicide that occurred around 3:10 a.m. Sept. 14. Correctional officers found inmate Rodney Thomas James, 50, hanging from a bed sheet tied to the upper bunk in his room at the Casa Grande Transitional Housing Facility in Las Vegas. James was housed alone at the time. Responding staff made immediate notification to 911 and attempted to provide emergency medical care until help arrived. James was pronounced dead at approximately 5:25 a.m. by emergency medical staff at the scene.

James was committed from Douglas County on Aug. 12, 2016 and was serving 2 to 6 years for driving under the influence.
