2 dead after police standoff with Watts gunman
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police are correcting the number of people killed in an overnight shooting in Watts.
Authorities say a gunman who opened fire on officers killed one person and himself after a standoff at a Watts home where three small children were staying.
The two-hour standoff began at around 3 a.m. Friday as a domestic dispute.
Deputy Chief Robert Green tells KABC-TV that the gunman fatally wounded a man in a truck, then fired at arriving police and holed up in a house.
Green says a SWAT team entered the home after about two hours. The man was found dead and his wife lay mortally wounded. Police initially reported she was killed.
Three children were uninjured and no officers were hurt.
The names of the victims haven't been released.
