(KTNV) -- It is one of the most famous, bizarre and mysterious cases in the last two decades. What really happened to six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey?

The little girl's murder in December of 1996 is back in the spotlight again today.

According to ABC News, a grand jury thought there was enough evidence in 1999 to indict her parents -- John and Patsy Ramsey.

The news was first published on Sunday by the Boulder Daily Camera.

Multiple sources apparently told the Daily Camera about the vote to indict the Ramseys on charges of child abuse resulting in death.

But, Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter told reporters in October of 1999 that there was not enough evidence to warrant filing charges against anyone.

Patsy Ramsey died in 2006 from ovarian cancer. John Ramsey is still maintaining his innocence.

The case is still officially open.

JonBenet Ramsey would have been 23 this year.
