Father of Lake Tahoe victim issues statement
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- The father of a California teen whose body was found at Lake Tahoe has issued a statement thanking authorities, friends and family who helped in the search.
Kevin Byrne of Petaluma says his family is "devastated" by the death of 19-year-old Alyssa Byrne and was "still holding out hope that she would be found safe."
Nevada authorities say she may have become disoriented or lost while trying to walk back from a music festival to her hotel in sub-freezing weather.
They say the cause of death hasn't been determined, but neither foul play nor suicide is suspected.
Friends told authorities that they last saw Byrne on New Year's Eve.
Her body was found Friday behind a snow bank along a South Lake Tahoe road one mile from the festival venue.
