CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say three people have died in a crash involving a car and two big rigs on a Central California highway.

California Highway Patrol officer Kirk Arnold said the crash occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 152 in Madera County near the city of Chowchilla. The highway connects the Central Valley to the San Francisco Bay area.

Arnold said the circumstances surrounding the crash are still unclear although investigators have ruled fog out as a cause.

There was only light fog at the time that didn't appear to hamper visibility.

The victims' identities have not been released, pending notification of relatives.

One lane of the highway was closed in each direction.
