PINOLE, Calif. (AP) -- A man described as a transient suffered only minor injuries after spending several hours stuck in a storm drain Friday night.

Authorities say emergency crews from several East Bay agencies were called out to the storm drain in Pinole by a passerby who told police of hearing muffled cries for help coming from a hillside behind a retail store around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Pinole police searched the hillside, with emergency crews determining the cries were coming from a man stuck inside a 12-inch corrugated steel drain pipe.

Video shot by KTVU-TV a little after midnight showed the man being pulled out of the drainage pipe by his feet as he thanked his rescuers for help.

The 27-year-old man sustained shoulder abrasions from being wedged in the drain for more than four hours.  He was also treated for hypothermia and dehydration. His name has not been released.
