Israel police: Armed man attacks US Embassy guard
JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israeli police say a suspect wielding a knife and an ax attacked a security guard at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv but has been detained.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the guard opened fire in the air during the attack on Tuesday. Rosenfeld says the suspect is being held at the scene.
Tel Aviv police spokeswoman Orit Friedman says the attacker is an Israeli in his early 40s. She says his motive was unknown, but political motives are not suspected. She says the embassy guard was slightly injured in the leg.
The U.S. Embassy did not immediately comment.
