Hearing set for California man behind anti-Muslim film
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A California man behind an anti-Muslim film that roiled the Middle East will get a chance to respond to allegations that he violated the terms of his probation stemming from a 2010 bank fraud conviction.
The revocation hearing for 55-year-old Mark Basseley Youssef was set for Friday in Los Angeles but was rescheduled to Wednesday for undisclosed reasons.
Youssef has denied eight probation violation allegations, including the use of aliases and lying about his role in the movie "Innocence of Muslims."
The film, which depicts Mohammad as a religious fraud, sparked violence in the Middle East two months ago, killing dozens.
Youssef was convicted of bank fraud in 2010 and sentenced to 21 months in prison. Authorities seek a two-year sentence for Youssef, who remains held without bail.
