Police fatally shoot worker outside New York City bodega
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City police say an officer accidentally shot a bodega worker to death while responding to a gunpoint robbery.
Police say it happened in the Bronx early Friday.
Police say that when New York Police Department officers arrived, they spotted an armed man and two others holding the bodega's manager and a worker down on the floor at gunpoint.
Police say two of the robbers saw the officers and fled to the back of the store, allowing the victims to break free.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says the worker ran "full tilt" into an officer just outside the door with his weapon drawn. He says the two "became entangled" and the officer's gun went off. Browne says authorities believe it was an accident.
Three men are under arrest.
