Close-plane mishap rattled air traffic controllers
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A new report describes a chaotic scene in an airport tower after controllers mistakenly flew three planes too close to each other near the nation's capital. It says some controllers were rattled afterward.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what happened on July 31 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
It released a 14-page report Wednesday that confirms some of what investigators had already said, including that miscommunication led to the too-close flights.
The report also provides more detail about what happened when air controllers cleared two outbound flights to head in the direction of an incoming plane.
