Boat crash leaves 3 men missing in central NY lake
SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. (AP) -- Emergency crews continue their search of a central New York lake for three men who went missing after their boat struck a buoy and sank.
Lt. James McCarthy of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said Friday morning that four men were in the boat when it struck a buoy and sank about five to six miles from the eastern end of Oneida Lake late Thursday night. One of the men was rescued by Sylvan Beach firefighters after a 911 call was received around 10:15 p.m.
McCarthy says the boat sank in about 15 feet of water in an area of the lake known as Messenger Shoals. He says dive teams are resuming their underwater search early Friday morning.
McCarthy says the men were related, but didn't provide details.
