Video captures plane before it crashes
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A National Transportation Safety Board investigator says security video captured a small plane taking off from a southern Utah airport just before it crashed about 300 yards from the runway, killing all four men aboard.
Zoe Keliher (kell-uh-her) says the video shows the single-engine Cessna 172 flying at a low level above the runway before making a rapid ascent early Saturday morning. She says it then shows "a descent of a few flickers of light" but not the aircraft itself.
St. George city officials say the four men aboard the plane were killed upon impact, and the wreckage wasn't discovered until more than four hours later.
The victims were identified as Colby Hafen and Christopher Chapman, both of Santa Clara; Tanner Holt of Washington City; and Alexander Metzger of St. George.
