A military veteran from Henderson wants to help survivors of the 1 October shooting heal.

Jeb Bozarth held a barbecue Saturday night for friends and family affected by the 1 October shooting.

"I felt if I could give back, maybe just through a barbecue, maybe just for a few moments help people get back to being normal if that is even a possibility anymore," Bozarth said.

Kara Bozarth, who is not related to Jeb, attended the barbecue. She survived the shooting, running for her life and hiding out in a hotel room. However, she said a close friend of hers is among the 58 killed that night.

"There's not words to express what goes through my mind at any given moment," Kara Bozarth said.

Jeb Bozarth believes support from the community will help all survivors overcome emotionally.

"There's going to be nights of no sleeps, there's going to be things, a sound, a smell, a sight, that's going to trigger a reaction, but I'm telling you, you will get through it," he said.
