A married couple is using their platform as church pastors in Las Vegas to help the people hit by Harvey.

John and Priscilla Boore founded Anchor Hill Church near Hualapai Way and the northern 215 beltway about two years ago.

In the five years before they moved to Las Vegas, they lived in Houston.

They're holding a donation drive Sunday at the church located at 10200 W. Centennial Pkwy., and they'll be collecting in a U-Haul anything that could help the people in Texas, from bottled water to diapers.

"We lost everything in a house fire when we were living in Houston and the people of Houston showed up in such a huge way for us," Priscilla Boore said. "So we thought we can't just watch while people are suffering."

John Boore says he's seeing friends in Houston post about how much they need, and how much they're struggling.

The Red Cross recommends donating money instead of goods, but the Boores say having personal connections in the area means they know their efforts will do the most good.

"While we greatly respect the Red Cross and they were there for us in our time of need, we're also hearing from people on the ground," John Boore said. "I think if the Red Cross can do what they do and organizations like us do what we do, I think synergistically we can come in and meet the totality of the need there."

The donation drive will be from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday at 10200 W. Centennial Pkwy. The Boores will then be leaving for Houston.
