A bill that would allow marijuana smoking in some public places in Nevada passed the state Senate Tuesday.

Under the proposal, which is now headed to the Assembly, businesses can apply for a permit that would allow people to smoke marijuana on the property or during special events.

Currently, people can only smoke inside private homes.

Supporters say the bill is aimed primarily at tourists.
