A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was arrested on Tuesday.

Officer James Burt was taken to the Clark County Detention Center where he is facing charges of domestic battery by strangulation and first degree kidnapping.

Burt has been with the LVMPD since September 2005 and relieved of duty without pay pending the judicial and internal investigations.

An arrest report released on Wednesday details what happened before Burt's arrest.

According to the report, Burt and his girlfriend got into a fight on Monday. She tried to leave and Burt reportedly followed her to a car and dragged her back inside. Burt also allegedly threw his girlfriend onto the couch, pinned her down, and told her to stop crying.

The girlfriend also claims that he threw her several times and told her that they could both die.

She also told police that he let her go after he calmed down.

Burt admits that the couple got into a fight, but is denying that turned physical.
