PHOENIX (AP) -- The director of Laughlin/Bullhead International says he's "sorely disappointed" by the Federal Aviation Administration's decision to shutter his facility's air traffic control tower because of budget cuts.
David Gaines says he'll ask the agency to reconsider, saying the airport on the Nevada border in northwestern Arizona has heavy daily traffic with flight schools and people headed to the Laughlin casinos. Arizona's Glendale Municipal Airport, Phoenix Goodyear Airport and Ryan Field in Tucson are also among the 149 nationwide slated to have their towers shuttered.
The City of Phoenix Aviation Department, which oversees Phoenix Goodyear Airport, says it's "looking into options for continuing tower operations in the absence of the FAA.
The Tucson Airport Authority, which oversees Tucson International Airport, petitioned the FAA, with help from southern Arizona's congressional delegation, to keep Ryan Field's tower open.
