County commissioners vote to abolish Constable's Office
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Clark County Commissioners voted unanimously to abolish the Las Vegas Township Constable's Office. The vote came during a meeting Tuesday.
Commissioners argued Bonaventura's $100,000 salary is a waste because his responsibilities, which include serving eviction notices, could be handled by local police.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie said additional staffing and resources would be needed if the Las Vegas Metro Police Department takes over the duties of the Constable's Office.
Constable John Bonaventura made headlines in recent weeks after a drunken driving arrest. Charges against Bonaventura were never filed. Last year, a controversial YouTube video showed the Constable's Office in a negative light.
Bonaventura fired back after that assertion, stating he was the victim of a smear campaign by county officials with a political vendetta against him.
The end of the Constable's Office won't become official until 2015.
