Ex-firefighter fighting charges in wife's slaying
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A judge is scheduled to hear a challenge of criminal allegations that a former Las Vegas firefighter hired a homeless man to bludgeon his estranged wife to death.
Defense attorney Robert Langford says he'll argue Tuesday that prosecutors relied on "the fantastical claims of a deranged man" to convince a grand jury to indict the 41-year-old George Tiaffay.
Accused hit man Noel Scott Stevens pleaded guilty in January to six felonies, including murder, robbery and conspiracy, in the Sept. 29 slaying of Shauna Tiaffay.
Stevens admits he bludgeoned Shauna Tiaffay to death with a hammer in her northwest Las Vegas apartment.
Tiaffay is accused of giving Stevens $600 and the key to the apartment weeks before she was killed returning home from work as a Palms Casino Hotel waitress.
