Four children seriously injured after hit and run rollover crash
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Doctors are working to save the lives of four young children seriously injured in a car crash in front of the Springs Preserve.
Police said the 16-year-old driver was in the process of committing a hit and run at the time of the crash.
Officers said there were six people in the car, four kids in the back, and the teenage driver and his mother in the front.
Police said the first crash happened just down the road in a Toys R Us parking lot.
Officers said after fleeing the first crash, the driver sped through the red light at Valley View, before striking a fence in front of the Springs Preserve and rolling the car over.
Police said if the teen would have just stayed at the in the Toys R Us parking after hitting that car, those four children wouldn't be so horrifically hurt.
"Totally avoidable if he would have just stayed for the private property collision, the most would have been a report and possibly looking in to any license violations," said an officer with Metro’s traffic detail.
Police said the driver is doing okay compared to the other passengers.
They don't believe he had been drinking or was on any drugs at the time of the crash, but he will now likely face serious charges.
If those children do not survive he could be facing manslaughter charges or felony reckless driving resulting in death.
