Henderson SWAT officer still on paid leave while incident investigated
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Henderson SWAT officer who drove a police vehicle on its rims until it went up in flames says he hit a median but kept driving.
Officer Justin Simo says he didn't see any damage to the expensive vehicle until it caught fire.
The incident happened about two weeks ago.
Investigators say there is damage to the fender, bumper and rims. They say the fire likely started because the accident damaged the wheel area and the vehicle overheated.
Firefighters estimated the damage at $60,000.
Simo is currently on paid leave while the police department investigates the incident.
