Nevada secretary of state presents voter photo
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The League of Women Voters is backing a proposal by Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller to update the state's polling books to include electronic voter photos.
Miller will present his bill, SB63, Thursday morning to the Senate Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections.
Miller announced his intention last fall and drew criticism from fellow Democrats, who say there's no evidence of voter fraud to warrant photos.
But Miller says it would update the state's antiquated election system by bringing it into the digital age.
Under his plan, Department of Motor Vehicles' photos would be electronically transferred to county election departments and kept in electronic poll books at voting locations.
Election workers could then match photos with voters, instead of matching written signatures as they do now.
