Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A plan for a high-speed rail between Las Vegas and Southern California has hit a roadblock.
Top congressional Republicans want the Obama administration to say no.
The House Budget Committee says the project -- known as the Xpress West -- is too wasteful and too risky to taxpayers according to Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
A private Nevada company is asking for $5.5 billion in government loans and are calling the project a "job engine."
The Federal Railroad Administration has been evaluating Xpress West's application for the loans. The total cost of the project is $6.9 billion.
