Nevada senator wants oversight of SNWA
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- A Nevada senator wants to put Southern Nevada Water Authority under the jurisdiction of the state Public Utilities Commission.
SB232 introduced Monday by Republican Sen. Michael Roberson of Henderson would require the water utility to obtain PUC approval for any increase in water rates.
Roberson says small businesses last summer saw their water rates increase about 300 percent to cover agency debt.
He says the proposed legislation has bipartisan support and will increase transparency and accountability.
