Family and friends mourn teenager killed in drunk driving crash
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Family and friends confirm Robert Lee Brown Jr., 15, was killed when an SUV crashed into a light pole Saturday night. The accident happened on Rainbow Boulevard, just south of Lake Mead.
The 23-year-old driver, Arturo Castillo, was arrested for driving under the influence at the scene. Police say Castillo was going around the curves on Rainbow Boulevard, at a high rate of speed, when he lost control.
Oscar Ceballos, 18, was also riding in the SUV. He suffered minor injuries.
Robert's family and friends gathered Sunday at the site of the crash. They left flowers, wrote messages, and lit candles for the Western High School student.
"I just want everyone to know he was the best kid," says Terry Sumpter. "Please learn by this. Don't be the next person. Don't drink and drive. It's not easy to deal with something like this."
"He's not going to graduate from high school, or go to prom," adds Robert father, Robert Brown Sr. "You have to think about the choices you make. They involve other people's lives."
The school district is providing a grief counselor to Brown's classmates at Western High School.
