Motorcyclist in critical condition after multiple-vehicle wreck
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Three vehicles were involved in a crash Saturday night, leaving one person in critical condition.
It happened just before 10 p.m. on Charleston Boulevard, east of Apple Drive.
Las Vegas police said a 2003 Honda Civic was westbound on Charleston when a collision occurred between an SUV and a lamp pole fixed in the center median.
The pole collapsed onto the road and blocked several traffic lanes.
The operator of the Civic stopped his vehicle and began directing traffic around the obstruction.
That's when a motorcycle drove through the mess at a high rate of speed, and struck the Civic.
The motorcycle driver, 19-year-old Frederick Carapel of Las Vegas, was ejected and continued to slide on the asphalt. The motorcycle then struck another vehicle.
Carapel was transported to UMC Trauma in critical condition.
There were no other injuries reported in the crash.
The collision is currently under investigation by Las Vegas police.
