Las Vegas woman found dead in dumpster laid to rest
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Family members gathered Saturday to say a final farewell to Josephine Butler, the local woman found dead in a Valley dumpster.
It's been a tough month for the Butler family, who said it all started when they received a knock on the door from a homicide detective letting them know Josy's body had been discovered in a trash bin.
With no clues as to how or why, the family found the strength to say goodbye.
In Feb., Butler was found stuffed inside a duffelbag in a back alley dumpster behind a Strip mall, near Craig and Nellis.
Dozens of friends and family members wore purple, Josy's favorite color, in honor of the 28-year-old single mother.
Her 7-year-old daughter read a note, saying it was sent to her by her mommy in Heaven.
Butler, a Las Vegas resident, was remembered as a woman who always called her family to check-up on them or just to simply say, "I love you."
Las Vegas police said Butler died of non-natural causes.
The family said they are sick over the callous way Josy's body was disposed of. They said they won't rest until the person responsible is found.
